Hello,
I recently bought a Hanns-G HW173D 17-in widescreen monitor (1440x900).
I am using a DVI connection, along with the mini-DVI-to-DVI adapter with my second generation 2.0 Ghz SuperDrive MacBook. When I plug it in, it detects the monitor just fine--it even acts like I should be able to use it, letting me move my mouse over to it, etc. However, the monitor is apparently not getting any signal because it is black.
I am sure the monitor is set to use DVI input, unless there is some problem with that, and as far as I can tell, this monitor and my Macbook's integrated graphics should be compatible. (For fun, I've even tried a bunch of different resolutions--no luck. This is also not the first time this has happened; I tried an Acer monitor when I first got the Macbook with this same setup, and it only worked under crazy resolutions like 800x600; I just chalked it up to a fluke in the monitor. But now this one isn't working, either...)
I would appreciate any help I can get. The mini-DVI-to-DVI adapter does not appear to be physically damaged, although I suppose it could be flawed in other ways (I don't really want to spend $20 to try a new one just for fun). I suppose it could also be a problem with my MacBook itself, or maybe even the monitor (but I highly doubt that at this point). If anyone has any ideas, I would appreciate them.
PS - In case it is a problem with the Mac, I am still under my 1-year limited warranty, but I have not (yet
) purchased AppleCare, and my 90 days of complimentary phone support have run out. I also live hours away from the nearest Apple store or even authorized repair center...
Thanks for any help anyone might have!
