Monitor Settings (ASUS VH198T & Mac Mini)

Something strange is happening with the monitor. When I launch iTunes the screen flickers and is almost impossible to read. The screen resolution was 1440x900 and I changed it to 1024x768 and now the flickering stops but the screen looks very stretched out. Any ideas? Using HDMI to DVI cable.
