I'm waiting to buy a 16" MacBook until it gets upgraded with the 10th-Generation CPU, but, am unsure which monitor to buy for it. Right now I have the 2014 5K 27" iMac and MacBook, and want to upgrade both to this MacBook Pro with monitor, so I only have one computer.

I will want at least a 27" 5K or higher resolution monitor. But looks like the LG one Apple sells is pretty long in the tooth--and I'm scared that if I buy it, then as soon as I do, a newer, better one will get released. The XDR display is of course out of the question.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I wouldn't say it's very long in the tooth, but in some ways it's good it's not super recent as last thing you want is to be battling quality issues that may come from any new monitor released. It's boring but in a good way.

Display manufactures sort of give the impression they're always improving, but it's very marginal, so I wouldn't be worried about some incredible new version coming for the same price. The next move I'd expect to make from a LG 5k would be to an OLED 5k, and no idea when they're coming.

I've got a 4k LG 27UL850 next to my Ultrafine. It's ok on it's own, cheaper, but can tell in the sharpness and color it's not the same as the Ultrafine. Main reason is cause it accepts extra inputs (HDMI etc).

Just get the 5k I'd say. It looks great, works perfect with the 16" MBP. There's nothing really comparable at 27". It also puts out 96W for USB-C charging, where most similar monitors only do 60w.

Thanks, narcan! I'll probably do that, just wanting to make sure I get the best affordable one that's out there--as long as it connects to the MacBook Pro, that works for me. And, since I've been spoiled with 5K, don't want to go to 4K, for any reason.
