Hi! Like many people here I'm looking for a monitor similar to imac. I've been working with imac all my life and was saddened when I had to switch to macbook + monitor due to better performance. I'm a digital artist and I often paint in dark colors, the depth of black is extremely important to me.
I know that only Ultrafine 5k is similar enough to mac. I bought it, but unfortunately it had a creepy backlit , I exchanged it and it glowed pink again and turned off whenever it wanted. I have heard a lot about their quality control and do not want to take any more risks.
Next I bought Dell U2720Q. Everywhere it is written that this is a great monitor, and it really is. It is very good in color and uniformity, straight out of the box, but not in black levels. I open my projects started on iMac and I can not distinguish details in the shadows. Ahhh.. I guess all ips monitors are like this.
But wait, what about these professional monitors like Eizo, Asus etc which cost more than 2000usd. They also do not show decent black as iMac, right? Should I look in such an expensive price segment if black is so important to me? And if professional monitors do not cover all shades of black, why are they so expensive?
Please, any thoughts! I'm desperate. Apple XDR is too expensive for me.
