So I bought a new BenQ monitor that can display 1920x1080, and have hooked it up to my 13" MBP via HDMI.

I can get it to display at 720, which looks horrible.

In system prefs, under the display tab, neither 1080i nor 1080p are available as options.

Once I tried SwitchResX and turned on 1080i, I get an intense shaky-blurriness on the monitor (yet when I turn on the monitor's native menu, it displays just fine).

When I turn on 1080p, I get mostly white noise with the occasional flicker of background. Again, native menu displays just fine.

So - can my MBP produce a 1080p signal? Is it possibly a problem with my cable or connector? Have I missed something completely?
