Hi everyone,

Searched a bit and having some trouble getting a concise answer. The short version is that I'm trying to find a way to log when my mesh router disconnects from my main router, ideally with either Mac or AppleTV-compatible software.

Longer explanation, including setup: I have a Synology MR2200ac mesh router connected to my main router, a Synology RT2600ac, via wired uplink through coaxial using two MoCA adapters (ethernet to coaxial). I began to notice some network instability on the part of the mesh router and randomly caught that there was an outage between the MoCA adapters. This lasted for only a few brief seconds, but was enough to knock the mesh router off for a solid 10-20 seconds. In other words, this is all brief - brief enough to make it difficult to ascertain how often it's happening, but debilitating if trying to do something like video conferencing. Synology's routers do have logging capabilities, but it seems to only log mesh router disconnects if the disconnect occurs for a longer period of time. These events don't seem to be registering. While the router system will send me emails regarding network outages, those messages only occur if the primary router goes offline (whether due to a power event or a true network outage). Unfortunately, the mesh router does not have the same capability.

I'd like to have some way to monitor just how often these disconnects are occurring, in part to help with diagnostics and also ensuring that my changes are resolving the issue.

My Apple TV is wired to the mesh router, and seems like an obvious choice to monitor for network stability at that part of the network. I also have an outdated Mac sitting around that could be moved over and connected to help with monitoring. My question is: what software, whether free or paid, would people recommend for this purpose?

I already own PeakHour, which examines a few network metrics and can do logging, too. However, while it monitors second by second, its logging frequency can only be as fast as one minute. I'd still assume that seeing something like an average ping response time over a minute massively increasing would correlate with connection loss, but I'm worried it might still miss it.

I also own LittleSnitch, but this seemingly can't be used for this purpose.

I've seen Network Logger Pro recommended online, which seemingly does have a function for this and is also a fair price. This is currently what I'm angling toward - it reportedly does have iOS versions, but I'm not seeing that it would for the Apple TV.

Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Smokeping if you're up for running it on Linux, like a raspberry pi, with all the manual set up it entails. It works well for me, even if it's ancient in comparison to trendy dashboard views.

Or this is a list of alternatives which I've not personally tried...
