Hi

I'm tired of waiting for a new Apple monitor.
Since I am a noob and I soon will be buying a new monitor, I will need your help.
For now, I'd use it with my MacBook Pro (mid 2012, 2,5 GHz Intel Core i5, 16GB RAM, Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB).
As soon as I started looking, the LG 34UM65 caught my eye.
Mostly because of the price and good reviews.
I can get it for around 600 dollars.
Then I started comparing it to his bigger brother, the LG 34UM95.
I am asking myself if it would be more rational to purchase the 34UM95 when I know either of these would be used for a long time, would I still be happy with the 34UM65 after a long time? I'm speaking +5 years, actually, until it breaks.
I can get the big bro for 900 dollars.

What would I use it for, you ask?
I am looking for a big display because I stepped away from watching TV, everything is on the internet these days, I find it way more easy.
So I would play movies, 720p or 1080p.
I am not really into gaming so a little bit of 'lag' wouldn't bother me (I wouldn't care if the 34UM95 would be a little bit slower because it requires more power).
But is there a big difference, will my MacBook have a hard time because of the graphics?
Will I myself, as 'noob', notice a difference in display quality?
The display will probably later be used with the new Mac mini, when it is released.

Also, I know it is possible to connect the Apple TV to the 34UM65 with DVI port which is HDCP supported. Since the 34UM95 doesn't have the DVI port, can I connect the Apple TV via the HDMI cable? There's no where in the description stated that this particular monitor supports HDCP.
Also if you guys have any better ideas then these two display, please do tell! I am always interested in your set-up.

Thank you guys

My suggestion -- rewrite your post so the questions you have are clearly presented. It reads as a stream-of-consciousness and what you're asking isn't clear beyond the general question of "buy this one or that one"

Also realize the 34" LG monitors are fairly niche products; not a lot of people likely have one. Others likely don't know the differences between the two models without going to look them up. Perhaps you could outline the key differences to help people form / provide an opinion.

Good luck.

No frickin' way I'm paying that amount of coin on a monitor with a 1-year warranty. I like the monitors, saw them at a local Fry's. I'm waiting for their Massdrop clones - same monitor, 3-year warranty, same price. I'm looking at the higher resolution Massdrop 34UM94, shipping in September.

Thanks, this is actually helping a lot. where do you keep track of upcoming monitor updates if I may ask?

They aren't clones. The 34UM94 is the commercial version of the 34UM95.

The drop ended last night. Price was $849. You can vote for it to return right now, but the first one is over.

Oh, dear lord. Please forgive me, I don't want the world to end.

I've been following the Overclock thread in their online deals thread here:
http://www.overclock.net/t/1504120/massdrop-lg-34um94-ultrawide-monitor-849-new-lower-price

Other forums (like this one) will offer up opportunities on this and other forums, and for Massdrop you can sign up directly at their web site. I'm waiting for September to roll around and read a couple of reviews. Good luck!

This was mentioned merely to be clear about what was being offered. They were official LG monitors. "Clone" generally means an inferior copy of the original (in the tech world), which is not the case.

As I mentioned, the initial offering on Massdrop has now ended. It may return, but as of now the purchasing phase has completed and those who were in will have their monitors shipped in September.
