Hello,

Can anyone recommend a monitor that looks like Apple's Cinema display but doesn't cost $999? Preferably if its just as good.

Also, is there any rumors for an update to Apple's Cinema display?

Thanks in advance

Yes, there are rumors Apple will update it to 4K and the slim iMac design. As for other monitors I don't know any that look like the Apple one however the Dell U2713HM is a very good choice.

Good luck in your search!

HP Pavilion 27xi

The only big problem with it is that it has a resolution of 1920 x 1080.

Forget about the looks and get the slightly better and much more reliable Dell U2713HM, or if you prefer AdobeRGB color space, the U2713H.

You know, a decent screen needs a bunch of ventilation slots and serious depth to get homogeneous illumination of the panel.

With LED backlights, they don't really get warm enough to need lots of vents do they?

IMHO the NECs are inexcusably hideous.

And you could go with one of the Korean 2560x1440 IPS monitors out there. They can be comparable to the cinemas since they are basically the iMac 27" monitors. Where they fall down is often in adjustability, backlight, and some other stuff, like connections. But they are super affordable, and depending on your needs can do the trick...while you're awaiting the 4k.

I have one from Monoprice and it's great...esp. for about $425 US.

Led's get even hotter. CCFL has the heat spread over the full length of the tubes. LED's on the edge are very small, and can become very hot on vert small spots. So total heat is lower, but on the edge it is much hotter.
