I just wanted to pop in and put in a good word for Monster's iCarCharger 1000 since the general consensus on the internet, judging by reviews on multiple retailers' websites is that it's absolute garbage.
I recently purchased an iPhone 4, which is replacing my iPod Touch as car music machine and now the headphone jack feeds out of the top instead of the bottom like it did on the iPod Touch. This means I needed to come up with another car solution, as the aux cord I use is coiled, and thus has a tendency to tug, making holding the phone with the cable coming out of the top totally uncomfortable, as it tends to want to pull the top of the phone down & to the right.
So I dropped by Radio Shack after work and picked up the Monster iCarCharger 1000. Connects through the dock connector, and has both a charger and an aux cable coming out the other end. It has pretty poor reviews across the internet, but it was on sale for $24.99 (Normally $49.99) and was the cheapest of it's kind at Radio Shack.
Holy crap does audio sound so much better out of the dock connector as opposed to the headphone jack. Unfortunately I initially thought the cable was retractable and I tugged on it a bit. Here's hoping I didn't cause any damage.
The charger end is gonna live under my armrest, so I won't get to use those buttons, but it's neat that they're there. Unfortunately I bought my car the year before Ford rolled out Sync, otherwise I'd have true iPod support...
My other options were the Griffin Autopilot at $37.99 (On Clearance), and Radioshack's own brand Gigaware, at $29.99 (Normal Price)
The Griffin's dock connector being small is nice, and the fact that the cable is removable/separate is nice as well, so while walking in I was planning on getting the griffin because of the Monster's poor reviews...I ended up with the Monster since it was $12 cheaper. (Or more if I have the clearance price wrong in my head)
