Now that we know new notebooks will be released on Tuesday, there has been a lot of talk about what to expect. I haven't heard much about this brick (this update certainly doesn't seem to be all about it), nor have I heard about the montevia platform. What gives?

We do not know in fact that they'll be released Tuesday. Only that they'll be ANNOUNCED. Sometimes its a few weeks before it hits the shelves. My local reseller took several months before they had an air in stock to manhandle.
Been hearing rumours they'll start shipping Oct 14 too ... unlikely but would still be a nice treat

Brick apparently refers to the manufacturing process (carved out of a brick of aluminium), although could also refer to a new innovation within the power brick (wireless charging anyone).

Thats not the point of this post, but fine...Now that we know that they will be ANNOUNCED on tuesday, why hasnt montevia been mentioned, or the brick?
Processors an chipsets have absolutely nothing to do with one another beyond the fact that only some are compatible.
Chipsets in themselves are meaningless.
They're going to be using the processor from the Montevina chipset, if that's what you're asking. According to rumors, they're not using Montevina's x4500 integrated graphics.
