if i were to get an iphone with a 50$ monthly plan, how much would i pay once taxes and everything is included, assuming i dont go over my minutes/data usage? I heard there was some sort of "consumer electronics/administration" tax that would jack my bill up to over 70$. is this true or just a bunch of crap? I live in Ontario Canada if that helps...

It's a bunch of crap.

Depends on your carrier. I got a tablet with Verizon once and my data plan was supposed to be 35 a month and it was 35.49....can't complain....

35.49?! That's a deal breaker right there!! lol thanks guys, i figured as much, just wanted to be sure..

Tablet plans are not subject to the myriad of taxes and fees that voice plans are. They usually represent between 20-30% depending on municipalities involved in the US.

Cheers,

Expect around $10 in assorted taxes and surcharges for a $50 phone plan. It all depends on the carrier.

I can't comment specifically on laws in Canada, but I know that in the states they tack on various taxes, not just a sales or service tax. 911 fees are included as well. IME it has been about ten percent of my standard service costs.

Here's the AT&T one:

Surcharges and Other Fees

Administrative Fee $0.61
Federal Universal Service Charge $1.92
Regulatory Cost Recovery Charge $0.45
State Cost-Recovery Fee $0.40
Texas Universal Service $1.23

Total Surcharges and Other Fees $4.61

Government Fees and Taxes

9-1-1 Service Fee $0.50
911 Equalization Surcharge $0.06
City Sales Tax $0.20
TX State Sales Tax $0.63
TX State Sales Tax - Telecom $2.94

Total Government Fees and Taxes $4.33
