Without apology I draw to your attention this lovely film clip:

Full moon over Wellington, NZ…

Here is something a bit random, but none-the-less astounding. It is a 3 minute video clip of the full moon rising over Wellington. The photographer apparently shot it on a calm summer evening, as people gathered on the Mt. Victoria Lookout point to watch the moon rise.
This stunning video is one single real-time shot, with no manipulation whatsoever. The camera was placed on a hillside over 2 kilometres from the Lookout point, and was shot with the equivalent of a 1300mm lens.
The amount of planning, trial and error, and luck that went into this are mind blowing. He has been trying to capture this for over a year with many failed attempts.

Yeah really amazing. Towards the end, it looks like the Moon is a hot air balloon.

I've seen this posted in 4-5 forums and never gets old watching it again.

Interesting thing is even at 2.1km away there is a difference in focus - the people are razor sharp while the moon is outta razor sharp focus.

If I had to offer suggestion on how to better this.....use 2 exact cameras/lens side-side, one focused on the people/platform and one on the moon, then overlay the people in focus frames via mask onto the moon focus frames.....

Maybe the apparent difference in focus reflects the depth of atmosphere traversed between camera and moon?

Wouldn't the moon be much smaller if you focussed on it?

I have seen this a couple times now and it remains very enjoyable. Mount Victoria is on the other side of Wellington Harbour from my home.
