I just read about a potentially great product with some obvious shortcomings. The Mophie Juice Pack significantly extends available power to the first-generation iPhone in a soft-grip case.

Though it looks good, what I see lacking is complete iPhone protection (the top is exposed) and lack of belt clip. The extra bulk of the battery keeps the iPhone from fitting any existing protective case. At $100, I am inclined to wait to see pricing for the next iPhone but still tempted a bit as I plan to keep my 16GB model for a while.

The timing for this product is quite curious. As the first-generation iPhone is reaching the end of its product cycle and a new form factor may be introduced, this high-priced case is introduced. Anticipated GPS, push email, and faster Internet connection could have detrimental effects on normal battery life. Perhaps a version for the second-generation iPhone will be announced shortly after official release.

all of your assumptions assume a new case design...

also it seems as if speakerphone would have some obvious problems
