Mophie Introduces New 18-Watt Powerstation PD Batteries for Fast Charging

Mophie, Apple's retail and online store partner for external batteries, today announced a pair of new Powerstation PD batteries supporting 18-watt fast charging over USB-C to charge your phone to 50 percent in as little as 30 minutes.

Just a few months ago, the company launched a high-capacity 45-watt USB-C PD battery aimed at providing power for MacBooks, but the new Powerstation PD and PD XL come in at lower price points and lower power optimized for phones. The 6,700 mAh Powerstation PD is priced at $59.95, while the 10,050 mAh powerstation PD XL is priced at $79.95.

Each model includes a USB-C port that supports 18-watt charging output and 15-watt charging input, as well as a USB-A port that supports up to 12-watt output, and Mophie's Priority+ passthrough charging technology ensures connected devices charge first, followed by the battery.

The new Powerstation PD and PD XL are available today at mophie.com, but there's no word yet on whether they'll also be coming to Apple's retail and online stores.

I want Anker or Mophie or any company with good power supply engineers to make a 5 port USB-C PD desktop charger, where it's 18W each if all 5 ports are being used at once, or up to 90W if only one port is being used.

In the 80's they gave us calculators that used solar power to charge. Why are cell phones not able to be charged by the sun? Solar energy. No please, rapid charging degrades Lithium Ion batteries faster (heat related), don't mind it if it's an option though.

Solar cells can't provide the power a smart phone needs.
Note: Not if they are as small as the phone itself.

$60 for 6,700 mAh capacity is outrageous. I get it's fast-ish charging, but there's alternatives that cost a lot less.

I've been waiting for PD to come to portable batteries before upgrading. Hopefully Anker will come out with one soon. I'd love to see a PD/capacity upgraded version of their PowerCore Fusion which is a combo wall charger and battery.

This is what I've been wanting as well. Actually now that I think about it I might have talked with you about it before. I get that it would be pretty crazy to have five 30W or higher outputs, but surely they can find some sort of balance. Or even a 2xUSB-C 30W PD and 3xUSB-A in one unit. I only really need to fast charge my iPhone and iPad as it won't work with my Apple Watch and I doubt it will make a difference with my USB-C camera or my wife's SE.

Using the 12W apple brick, my max charges from 30% to 80% in about half an hour. That's plenty fast for me. Although if you are the type to want the fancy stuff this seems pretty nifty:

But even those calculators required a hefty set of batteries, and they were quite a bit simpler than essentially a computer/phone/camera/TV/music player/etc. that mobile phones are these days.

You just take it to Apple they chuck a new one in for a few tens of bucks. It's a pretty simple process.

This product barely matters when there are already 45w PD battery packs on the market. Those chargers are significantly more useful, being able to charge Macbooks, iPads (at full speed), along with iPhones, Nintendo Switches and other things.

I want that too! Almost everything is USB-C now... Macbooks, iPads, Sony A7 3rd-gen cameras, GoPros, Insta 360 One X, Sony MDR-X1000M3 etc.

Anker had announced some new products made with gallium nitride, which is actually something of a technical leap for chargers and wireless chargers. The one I'm interested in is the PD 4, which has 100 w to spread across 2 USB-C devices, and iirc somehow you can determine how much charge goes where. The first of these devices, the PD 1 was supposed to be out now, but is delayed. However, Ravpower has beat them to the punch with the first gallium nitride charger, which is actually pretty impressive.
