Following Anker and Belkin, accessory maker Mophie today announced its upcoming lineup of products that will support the Qi2 wireless charging standard.

The accessories will include a 5,000 mAh magnetic battery pack with an aluminum kickstand for $69.95, a 3-in-1 charging stand for an iPhone, AirPods, and Apple Watch for $129.95, and two car vent mounts for an iPhone for $29.95 and $69.95. The battery pack and car mounts will be available to order later this year on Mophie.com and at select retail stores worldwide, while the stand will be available in the first quarter of 2024.

Qi2 is based on the MagSafe standard that Apple introduced with the iPhone 12. However, accessories that support Qi2 are not required to use Apple's official MagSafe module or be certified under Apple's Made for iPhone program, which should effectively result in availability of more affordable MagSafe accessories.

All four iPhone 15 models will support both Qi2 and MagSafe, according to ChargerLAB, a reliable source of charging-related information. Qi2 accessories will likely be able to charge iPhone 15 models at up to 15W, just like official MagSafe accessories. First-generation Qi chargers are limited to 7.5W charging speeds on current iPhones.

Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 15 series during its September 12 event.

So a Qi2 3in1 is $130 - how much is their MagSafe one?
If I were to get one of those I’d get a MagSafe one for sure, but that’s just me

I hope Apple has upgraded the MagSafe Battery Pack to USB-C. In addition, it will support faster charging.

People **** on this but I really like mine. If apple gives it a usb c port and more capacity I’ll rebuy it when I get the 15.

The only thing I don’t like is, I have a MagSafe compatible otterbox symmetry and it slides right off. When I was using it with the apple silicone case, it never slid off as easily. So next time I’ll be sure to stick with apples case.

The battery with kickstand looks nice, but probably too big to use with an iPhone mini. Bummer.

I’ll buy the car mount if it is able to charge my iPhone while I play music via Bluetooth and use Apple Maps. Currently I have to have my iPhone plugged via lightening in order for it to charge in those circumstances.

So is there not going to be a single dock with USB-C? Pretty sure I'd lose my wallet fast if I switched to one of these things.

also faster charging, less wear (heat)… Magsafe is cool for mobility stuff but I just don't get the appeal for the home.

What's going on with the photo of the 3-in-1 charger? It looks like they just had a stock photo of an iPhone without the dynamic island and did a piss poor job at photoshopping in an dynamic island at the top? The dynamic island is not reacting to the light as the rest of the iPhone does, and the thing isn't even properly aligned or anything. Would look much better just not include it at all.

Odd. I'm using a Qi charger in my car and the battery always goes up no matter what I'm doing. I'm using a 13 Mini, so maybe the screen isn't drawing as much power.

I will never buy a Mophie/Zagg product again after their 3-in-1 travel charger w/ MagSafe debacle and utter failure of a firmware update which after updating via the dongle, has created new charging problems (notably the watch & airpods now charging intermittently since the update) + their zero support, zero email replies & asking you to pay shipping costs for warranty claims. Buyer beware.

the magsafe vent mount that came out a couple months ago already stopped working. Mophie sent a new one for $10 and that one has inconsistent charging on and off like their 3 in 1. Their products really have gone downhill recently.

What’s the word on qi2 (sounds like the queen, or the ship) and Apple Watch fast charge? AirPods?

I guess I was always a little confused as to whether the original iphone MagSafe puck from a few years ago then was just a non label specific first party 15w, as opposed to the rest of the "qi" 3rd party that only did 7.5w? And so with qi2 they'll just all just be 15w?? Or is apple going to do their own "higher than 15w" update for that too??

There's just no way those car vent mounts are a good idea... All that heat blasting away at the battery in the winter.
Why would you blast heat through the vents? A stream of hot air to the face doesn't actually feel good. Heat to the floor and windshield (as needed); AC through the vents.

Vent mounts mean the phone gets active cooling in the summer. That said, I don't use vent mounts. I don't like blocking a vent and my wired carplay plugs in at the center console. I can see how they make sense for many though.

It does when you live in Iowa and occasionally go through winter days that are in the negatives.

I live somewhere much colder and seemingly have more experience warming a vehicle. Spend any extended time with heat coming out the vents and your feet will be frozen and your face will be dry.

Heat to the floor or 50/50 floor and defrost are superior options (even if you aren't using a vent mounted phone).
