I checked out the Mac app store and they are advertising "over 1,000" apps. That seems like a slow ramp up compared to the iPhone app store.

Why are Mac developers slow to sell their apps through this store?

Yes, does seem as if Apple is exerting a strangle hold on their ecosystem. They are catching a lot of fluff for the new subscription pricing which does seem a bit overbearing.

I hear they want 30% from Utility companies providing electricity to Macs :)

It's more work developing an application for the Mac than for the iPhone, there are limits via the Mac App Store that doesn't exist outside of it, or some devs just have no interest. Who knows? Give it time.
