I've looked through this forum for anything similar and I've not seen anything that would provide a solution so if you've got one, I'd love to hear it.
Currently running a 15" PB G4 1GHz PPC (Tiger) and just bought a 17" MBP 2.5GHz Intel (Leopard) and am looking to port over all my info. When I called Apple India, they told me there would be an issue due to the differences in architecture (PPC vs Intel) and that I should just manually drag over the old files via ethernet daisy chain. Having done this (except via Firewire 400) from my last PB, I was expecting something a little less time intensive. Not lazy, just have a whole lot of info to move.
The problem: When I tried it this time between PB and MBP, the PB displayed the Firewire logo, but the MBP didn't pick up the icon. Then it decided that I didn't have OS X installed on the PB (WTF?).
The question: Am I going to have to move all of this info over manually and reset all of my settings from scratch (not to mention reinstall all of my applications, damn!). Or is there a more UI friendly way to get all of this done?
