NCAA college football conference MAC today announced it has collaborated with Apple to provide its 13 teams with iPads for video replay during the 2025 season.

Coaches are receiving iPad Pro models with the M4 chip and iPad Air models with the M3 chip, with DVSport's 360 Rewind app installed for video replay. The app allows for coaches and players to make in-game adjustments on the fly.

"For today's student-athletes, iPad feels second nature, making it a perfect fit on college football gamedays," said Scott Brodrick, an iPad product marketing manager at Apple. "With its advanced display, powerful performance, fast connectivity, all-day battery, and the intuitiveness of iPadOS, it helps coaches and players make adjustments in real-time."

A trio of other college football conferences already started using iPads for video replay during the 2024 season, including the SEC, ACC, and Big Ten, following NCAA rule changes permitting the use of video replay technology on the sidelines.

Is the M5 Pro coming out next month? Haven't seen anything on Macrumors about it.

Really great for everyone involved, but I'm genuinely curious why there's so much marketing speak behind this for something that would usually be a throwaway line in a Keynote. A lot of hoopla for someone writing a PO for thirteen iPads.

Edit: Nevermind I can't read apparently 😭😭

That charging port location looks very dubious on what looks like an iPad Pro. They're probably messing with us. Well done MacRumors staff. LMAO.

We were doing this 10 years ago at the high school level with hardware and software provided by hudl.com. A good system and it didn't cost that much.

The way the Hudl system worked was we had 2 cameras, an end zone camera (on a pole) and a sideline camera (up in the booth). The hardware setup a private wifi network that the coach's iPads were logged into. This allowed them to watch live and also replay. The game was also upload to Hudl who would break the video down for coaches review after the game. They also offered a service to create "Highlight" reels for players to send to their college of choice. Today Hudl offers live video feed from High School gym events such as volleyball and basket ball. These live feeds allow grandparents, like myself, to watch our grandkids at their school in the midwest while we live in Florida. Check out the Hudl website and see what they offer. https://www.hudl.com/ BTW, I do not work for and affiliated with Hudl, I just think they offer a lot of great services that I became aware of 10+ years ago when I was working with my High School alma mater's football team.
