Hey all, newbie on here (already searched and couldn't find specifically what i was looking for)

I have a 21.5 late 2009 imac, it came with the 3.06/3m l2 cache cpu and am looking to do an upgrade... possibly. And have some extra cpu's lying around, specifically the e8400's.

If I am correct, the one currently in the imac is an e7600@1066 fsb and the e8400 is @1333 fsb. does anyone know if the mainboards in this model of imac will support the 1333 bus? Also do you know if it will support similar speed ram, or is that limited to 1066? I don't want to risk buying the 1333 ram if it may not work

Any information is greatly appreciated.

I would not personally risk upgrading to a 1333 mainly because I have heard it really does not make a difference...only helps a very small bit in the Geek-Bench scores. I know that with the current Macbook Pros, it does support 1333, but since the iMac is from 2009, I am not completely sure, and I personally would not upgrade to the 1333 bus, I would stay with the 1066.

ok thanks, i wasn't sure and i hate to crack it open just for that. guess the best thing to do would be to remove the 2x2gb ram from the macbook pro and install it in the imac and then just drop 2x4gb in the macbook.

imac has 4 slots in it correct? these are both 2009 models

Yes iMacs do have 4 slots.
