There was a single small bouquet of yellow roses in front of the Apple Store at SouthPark in Charlotte today with a card reading, "Thanks, Steve" -- this was around lunch time. If there was anything earlier, someone must have cleaned it up.

I still can't believe he is gone... it's hard to fathom it, let alone accept it. I have never felt so strongly connected to someone I didn't personally know.

I will utterly miss you Steve. You were and will always be my yardstick. No more pain for you. No more suffering for you... :'-( Goodbye.

Thank you for posting more of these. I was brought to a second round of tears when you added yesterday's photos to the news post last night.

Thank you, Steve. I wouldn't be where I am without you.

Here's the tribute outside the Southgate Apple Store, in Bath, UK. Notice the extinguished Apple logo. The mood inside was rather muted in comparison to it's usual bubbly feel.

Thankyou Steve for making the world a better place.

The memorial at the Apple Store Gateway. I added my own tribute to Steve...

A Tribute to Steve Jobs
By Tanner Lee Holcomb

Today, Apple lost it’s founder and greatest asset. Today, the world lost a genius who revolutionized the way we consume media. Today, I lost a hero. Steve Jobs was everything to me. He was a role model; someone to aspire to. I’ve wanted to be like him since I was seven years old. When I read about his death, my heart sank as I prayed it wasn’t true. But it was true. And so the tears began to fall.
Apple’s former CEO, Steve Jobs was a remarkable person; he led his company with a passion and strength that no one else will ever replicate. Steve Jobs brought the world to where it is now, and helped shape the age of technology. He will be greatly missed by everyone.
I’m typing this on a PowerBook G4 laptop. It’s at least six years old, and barely runs Leopard. I’ve always considered it incredibly slow, and hard to use. Yet, I think about how far computers have come in the last twenty years, and how Steve contributed to the great successes. It puts a smile on my face, to know that Steve Jobs brought technology farther than it has ever been, and that Apple will continue Steve’s legacy.
The world won’t be the same without Steve at the helms, to show us the next big revolutionary thing. No other person had leadership style of Steve Jobs, his ability to predict what consumers want, or the amazing and revolutionary achievements that he achieved.
Apple will remain a strong company; announcing advanced products that are more amazing then before, paving the way to new technologies, and revolutionizing the way that people feel about computers and mobile devices. But they have lost their greatest asset. And the world has lost the man who revolutionized the way we consume technology. Me? I lost a hero. :apple:

Tysons Corner, Virginia

I went over to the Tysons Apple store in Northern Virginia yesterday afternoon (October 6th). It was sad but also it was a vivid reminder of the incredible legacy Steve leaves us. In the store I watched as three people (two middle-aged women and a teen boy) were gathered around a MacBook Pro, having fun with Photobooth and enjoying what the computer could do for them, and I thought, hearing their laughter, seeing their smiles, "yes, Steve, this is exactly what you had envisioned: making computers FUN for people!"

I got a little teary when talking with one of the floor staff....until then I'd been fine. Of course all the employees are sad about this, too.

Before leaving I stopped and took a couple of snapshots with my iPhone of the flowers and notes left just outside the store and on the window:

The folded black t-shirt with the Apple logo and the glasses, not unlike Steve's, added another note of poignancy.

Actually, even before I got to the store, as I was walking towards it in the mall, it was obvious that something was different: the large Apple logo, which usually glows, was dark:
