Just a heads up...
My daughter is a teacher. Her school subscribes to a National Geographic service which allows her to download teaching materials. Till her Big Sur upgrade she's been able to copy excerpts from PDF files she's downloaded into OneNote, which she then projects to her students during Zoom calls. As of Big Sur, such copying is disabled.
This is actually a bug fix in Big Sur. A PDF program is supposed to respect an author's settings for permissions on a document. Preview in Catalina didn't do that in this case. Her workaround in Big Sur is to "Export as PDF..." the restricted document. The exported document seems to lack the restrictions. An alternative is to use a different PDF reader. I found that Skim doesn't respect the restrictions.
She'll have to raise the issue with National Geographic to see if they can help. But, they still require her to use Flash on their website, so I'm not holding my breath for a quick solution. She upgraded to Big Sur yesterday and was in a panic after she started preparing for her next class. Only a few hours a day is in person (face shields, masks, disinfectants); the rest is all remote.
