More than 4GB RAM in early '08 MBP?

This might be a stupid question, but can I put more than 4GB of RAM in my early '08 MBP? According to Apple it's only rated to max out at 4GB, but i've read about people putting in 6GB (2GB+4GB), which i dont think is recommended because it's not a pair.
Thoughts?

6 GB is the maximum, using two different modules is not not recommended, you just get dual channel performance using two same sized sticks, but the performance is negligible compared to 2 GB more RAM.

Upgrading RAM in MacBooks and MacBook Pros​
