im going to be getting a mac pro once they get updated and I really wanted the 27" imac but with the laptop parts even the 3.4 i7 isnt powerful enough for me not to mention i need more then 16gb of ram and 2 HDs. So im going to get a mac pro but I still want a comparable 27" display only problem is I need 2. and $2000 for 2 ACDs is just out of my budget once I spend 3-4k on the mac pro.

So I need a non apple display thats pretty much just as good but at half or less the price of a cinema display.

Sorry to say, but there are none, even the Dells are 800$ with discounts, you could try looking at refurbished ACDs

Yea there really is nothing that close. Your only other real alternatives are the Hazro HZ27A and Samsung SA850.

Not going to find that, unless they're stolen that is...

Not that I condone stealing, or fencing stolen goods of course... :D

The sweet spot for monitors today is fullHD-rez 21 and 24 inch screens. 27 inch, 2.6k rez, and especially with high-end specs, simply is considerably more expensive. There's really no way around that.

Might I suggest you consider buying just one screen initially, and then upgrade later with another? :p

Also, the Samsung SA850, as previously mentioned, is pretty comparable in image quality (and with an at least matte-ish screen, for those who prefer that), and should be cheaper than the Apple, although by how much is perhaps debatable.

You also get USB3 hub compared to USB2 in the ACD; you'd need a USB3 root hub add-in board for your MacPro to find full use of it though.

Don't buy a Dell unless you can live with potentially iffy out of the box quality and terrible customer service. Lots of complaints about their Ultrasharp line these days. HP just came out with a new 27 inch display that looks very promising.

I have the 24 inch version of this display and it's very good for $350 or so. These monitors fall under HP's business line so you get their corporate customer support which is much better than consumer.

Given very limited savings of non Apple 27" (about $800), I would just buy 1 Apple Thunderbolt Display for now as well. You may actually find 1 to be quite sufficient, especially given OS X's limited support for dual display setup.

Well, I would probably wait a bit for the price to go down on Amazon or some other etailer first. The cheapest seems to be MacConnection at $979 with free shipping and no sales tax.
