I bought a MacBook Pro 2.4GHz late 2008, I upgraded from a Macbook 2.16Ghz Macbook. I never really used the stock HD that came with the MBP, I simply switched HD's and forgot about it. Today I just finished backup my data and am looking to format my MBP's HD to become very efficient. I'm not really sure how to make a nice setup so I'll use the least amount of space for system files and have more space for my own videos, pictures, and music. I will start working with Adobe Ps, Ai, and Dw soon so I'm sure I'll have to buy a portable HD for it right? I just need a little help with all this...I'm so confused.

What exactly are you trying to achieve? Do you want to keep as much free space as possible?
