Hi all,

got a 2.2ghz 15" MBP. Want to get a decent SSD (that's better than Apple's SATAII option.
But I want the reliability of an "Apple" drive. Is that possible? I mean why is that achievable on a normal HDD but not SSDs?
Also. is TRIM necessary? The camp is so divided I can't get a clear cut, well reasoned answer.

Thanks all :)

Samsung 470 hands down

Crucial M4 hands down, Intel 520 isn't as fast and cannot even be said to be more reliable(both are equally reliable). So i see no reason why it is more expensive

When is the 520 set to drop? It sounds promising, I know getting a 1TB HDD for my optibay is the smart thing to do, but something in me wants dual SSDs lol

I think sometime this quarter - no word on pricing, but as usual, rather expensive! SSD in RAID..... :D

Have you seen benchmarks for the 520? I haven't seen any and didn't know anyone had done them, but I don't really keep up with that. I would probably wait a while before buying an SSD right after the release though, since they seem to be hit or miss on reliability for the most part.

If you can wait a couple months after 520 release it might be worth it, other wise stick to something that is known to be reliable. Having a reliable drive is better than having a drive that can top benchmarks but only last a few months IMO.
