Hi all, I'm a new member, but I've watched this forum for a long time and have learned a great deal from the posters here. I'm in need of software advice, hence this post.

I'm a graphic designer (for 20+ years), I work for myself as a freelancer. I work about 90% with print, the rest with the Web, so print is my strong suite. I consider myself pretty proficient with the software I use (Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, etc...) but probably not "expert".

Now for the question. I have a client that I do packaging design for in the music publishing industry (music books, CDs, posters, and other stuff). This client wants to add a video product that can be shown during performances, using some of the art I do for the packaging along with other video and motion graphics resources. How best do I approach this?

What software would you recommend that I use to accomplish this? Is After Effects the way to go for motion art, or is Motion a good choice? What are the limitations of either? Do I need to update my hardware in any way? (I work on a dual 2Ghz G5 with 2Gb Ram, dual 140 GB hard drives w/ an external 400 GB drive). What are some resources to use to learn this type of thing? Should I concentrate on the graphics side and hire out the editing? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
