Something odd happened to my MOTU 828 setup about a month ago. I don't know what it was but it stopped working how it had worked before. And nothing I try seems to work to fix it.
Previously I had a MOTU 828mk2 fw connected to an Intel Imac 20" running 10.4.something. Connected to the rear analogue ports of the MOTU were 1/4" trs plugs from a couple of preamps from turntables and also a mixer's "main" output. I would then "capture" these via Audiohijack for subsequent editing. If I was not capturing, I can also monitor using "lined in" from Audiohijack just for checking everything works. All levels were set with the Audio Console that comes with MOTU drivers. Additionally I have the two "sends" going to monitor speakers that are not connected with the computer if I just wanted to listen to things at a higher volume.
Now no matter what I do, I cannot get the input to work on the computer. You can see the levels both on the MOTU and audio console from the various inputs, you can see an input in system preferences for the device (pulsating) yet no sound comes through. I have also tried Garageband as a native real instrument/monitor after setting the motu828 as the input to no avail.
Yet the "real" monitor outputs play all the time from all the devices and ditto to headphones.
MOTU finally tried to say the unit was faulty. The only inputs I can get to play are if I plug microphones in the front two ports and whack the preamp up to max.
I have, since the Leopard drivers came out, tried upgrading to Leopard: no difference. Tried it on my Macbook (Leopard): no difference. Even bought a usb version as I have a transcription project I must do whilst the fw is off to the USA and nada, nothing.
Google reveals some people have had similar problems but no real solutions. I have tried things like hardware resets, setting adat outputs (even though not using adat) etc.
Am I missing something blindingly obvious here in the midst of all my frustration ?
Many thanks in advance..
M
Edit: I have taken my old Alesis Multimix 12 usb and plugged straight into the machine, installed the driver (even though reading it was not perfect with Leopard yet). Took my feeds straight from the MOTU's input and put into the Alesis.. music straight into the Mac...
