Is there any software to mount a disk image and make it available through mac's firewire port? I'm in this situation where I have this bootable 6,5GB dual layer DVD -image, but I don't have any empty DL DVD-R at hand. But I have my powerbook, and I thought I could use it instead of burning.

So, I want to boot my PowerMac from my PowerBook much like with fw target disk mode, but using disk image instead of hard drive. Any ideas?

Booting from a disk image is possible in Mac OS X, but it requires two computers - one running Mac OS X Server to serve the image and another to boot from it. This is Mac OS X Server's "NetBoot" feature. I do not know of a way to do what you are describing, though :(

With the disk image mounted (i.e. it should look like a new drive on your desktop), I would think you should just be able to go into System Preferences > Startup Disk and choose that mounted disk as the system you want to use to start up your computer.
