Mount InstallESD.dmg before restoring to USB drive

I have been reading the articles on how to restore the InstallESD.dmg to a USB disk. One says to mount the dmg file before restoring it to the USB drive using Disk Utility. All the others have simply said to copy InstallESD.dmg to the desktop, nothing about mounting it, and then restore to the USB. Does anyone know if there is any benefit to mounting the disk image first?

It shouldn't matter. I didn't mount it first when doing a restore to my USB thumb drive.
