mountain lion op system

I have a mac pro 2.266 quad core 2009 and i cannot seem to load the new mountain dos,go through the pre-amble password etc and then nothing it just sits,no alarms no nothing .Anyone have a comment.
Also to further this it did install on a blank fresh drive but it will not go on the macintosh drive,should it not just overwrite

It worked ok seems the first one it tried was a full copy and would not install over the macintosh dive ,but to a blank.
Its now up and running about 20% of the exsisting software stopped as it needs updates.
Vmware quit (needs an update) mine was 4.1.1 and mountain is looking for 4.1.3
I really don't see much difference between lion and mountain yet
