I recently migrated to a new 2.9 GHz 21.5 iMac from an early 2006 iMac, SL. I upgraded to 10.8.2 right after the migration. The upgrade wiped out my settings for DragThing. All my Mail mailboxes were erased, along with years of data I rely on for registration, receipts, and other important reference data. The Dock was wiped of all my things (like DragThing).

Since then strange things can happen:
Restart or Start can wipe out my Mail folders, including their contents: a disaster before any back up!
My Desktop gets wiped and the Desktop file contents erased, or ML leaves the Desktop icons or folders in alphabetical order in a compact grid, instead of by categories along the top of the desktop
Sometimes wipes out my clock's month settings

Any thoughts?
