Hey guys! I've been coming to this site for years and years but never really had the courage to post on these forums so, let me introduce myself. My name is John and I am HUGE apple dork. So much so that after recently upgrading to Mountain Lion I was bummed that there was no cool welcome video so, I took matters into my own hands. I hope you guys like it and I'd love to know what you guys think! I'm hoping we can make apple bring these bad boys back. They're pretty important to really get that apple experience

Thanks guys! Whenever I watch any of the original vids I always think back to my first mac, and then my second mac and so on. These just really set the tone you know? It was a celebration to join the mac family! it just wasn't the same when I booted up the new OS without a proper greeting. I just hope this atleast comes close to giving that feeling of booting your brand new mac

Very well done, sir! I remember booting up my first Mac (2008 C2D MacBook) and thinking "Wow, this is pretty awesome!" Shame that Apple took the video away :(

@mrsir2009 that's really what I was trying to capture with this project :). That feeling of when you first opened your brand new mac. I've been a mac user since I was 8 years old but anytime those videos played when they used to have them, it never failed to seriously excite me.

@andalusia thanks for the comment and the laugh (your avatar makes me imagine peter griffin saying that and it seemingly sarcastic haha)

@TexasChemE I know right? It's not only a shame but, a travesty that they now sell a macbook pro with a retina display and no welcome vid! A hi res vid would be so great at showing off that beautiful screen

I have to admit, I felt a little jiped when they removed the welcome video, so much so that I ripped it out of Leopard or SL (can't recall which) saved it and made a few good ring tones I keep around.

So I admit, I enjoyed them also. It's the small things that count I guess. Good job on the new video BTW.

@ZMacintosh yeah I know, I'm really wondering how this whole mac os initiative will play out. I really love ios software but, not so much that I wanted it on my computer :p

@srl7741 Thank you! yeah, without it, it just feels like something's missing. Then, I don't know about you, I started wondering what else might be missing in the new OS

@Jessica Thanks for the awesome comment!

@Fazzy Oh man, I was wondering if anyone thought the song fit. I was getting a little worried haha. Your awesome comment is definitely appreciated.

I'm loving this video! I wish bring back the welcome videos :( But oh we'll Apple is all about unification and assimilation iOS now. :(

By the way, you made two Welcome's in Traditional Chinese. :D

Awesome! Curious what programme you used to do it?

Would love these to come back, always remember booting OS X for the first time and seeing all the ripples while it said welcome in a bazillion languages... Ah, good times

Found this video which has OS 8-Leopard in case anyone wants to relive them all!: http://youtu.be/DT76IwhRgyo

hah, I was wondering when someone would notice. I searched far and wide as to what language the fourth welcome was in since it seemed to be some variation of chinese or a language relating to it. Do you what it is? I'd love to find out!

Oh god, the os 8 intro vids are just awful yet, I can't help but get a serious kick out of them. They bring back so many memories haha.

Thank you btw and as for the program, I used Final Cut Pro X because it does everything it's supposed to do perfectly.... just kidding. In all seriousness though, I used after effects and 3D Studio Max to make this intro. About 90% of the work was done in after effects on my iMac!

I really miss the intro videos. I remember 10.1.5 on the old g4. We powered that up, and a calm, clean, impressive welcome was presented to us. My father, very anti-Mac, was floored.

-sigh-

I remember getting my first MacBook after using windows for so long....
The video really made me like I purchased something amazing and made the first Mac experience feel special.. Shame they removed them :(

This video was great, hopefully apple comes around.

not bad.

they wont anymore, now that is Mac OS and not Mac OS X -.-

It is actually OS X and not Mac OS, they took the Mac and not the X away in order to unify it with iOS. Understandable if one sees the direction Apple is going.

And congrats on the video. What application did you use to create it? It shows some rendering artifacts on the lower left X for example.
