mounting a external drive in iphone for rsync

Hi

I have jailbroken my iphone 4. I now am looking at setting up rsync to backup my folders and sync back and forth music/podcasts so saves me using itunes if possible.

Question - and bare with me as new to iphones, is this at all possible, and wheres best to place the mount - anywhere specific?

Also - I usually have a script that I call from cron that does all my mounting, then the relevant rsync transfers, again, any issues or anything I need to be aware of?

Be aware that it is not that simple to add/delete songs on the iPhone. The stored music has an odd file structure and there is a database file that needs to be updated with changes.
