I'm new to Mac products and just got my first 15' MBPr and already have a problem. I'm trying to install a Seagate Backup Plus Desktop Drive 4TB (USB) so that I can set up Time Machine. However, I've been unable to get the drive to mount and show up in Disk Utility where I was going to reformat for Mac OSX. Any ideas what I have to do to get this Windows/Mac external HD to be recognized? The indicator light on the drive just keeps flashing when I plug into the USB port. Thanks.

Out of the box, a Mac can only read from PC formatted drives, they cannot write to them.

You can install a program such as Tuxera that will enable the read/write function.

That's most likely your issue.
