Does anyone else experience this? I first thought there is the problem with my mouse, then I booted into Mavericks partition, and I cannot make it happen there, no matter how hard I am trying.

It happens when you quickly press left and right buttons on different screen coordinates, seems like the system gets "confused" by that.

Are you using a wireless mouse, and do you have USB 3 devices attached? If you do, this may be caused by interference caused by the USB devices.

I cannot reproduce with left-right mouse buttons, this looks to me like this is what happens whey you click-hold-drag on desktop. I see it on El Capitan & High Sierra but do not have a Mavericks to try. Long ago, I noticed this unusable selection myself (using just left mouse button) but it seemed harmless to me, and the selected region disappears when left mouse button is released. Do you have an issue because this selection box persists when the mouse buttons are released?

No. But it is annoying.

And i wondered if this is happening to anyone else. Granted, not many people using the two button mouse here, most of the people are using the built in trackpad here. And others are mainly using the Magic Mouse that came with their iMac.

I am not using the BT mouse, but the wired one.

No matter what I try, the issue persists.

Looks like I will have to live with it.

To you who want to replicate it, make a selection with left mouse button, then press the right mouse button. Upon dismissing the right click contextual menu, the selection area remains.

I use 3-button mouse, wired Logitech MX-518, running latest High Sierra and can reproduce this now that see that you need to hold the left button when you click the right button, but the selection effect disappears when I click anywhere on the desktop. Still, seems like a harmless to me. Have you been able to identify any side-effect besides the visual seen on desktop?

Thanks for the reply.

Well, as I have said before, this doesn't impact me in any bad way, except that it irritates me when it happens. This is not normal behavior after all, and I wanted to see if someone has figured out why does this happen. I am of very curious nature, I admit.

So far, I haven't noticed any mouse related glitches beside this one. If I ever encounter something else, I will share.

Yes, this started with 10.13.6, and I am seeing it with multiple mice (both usb and wireless). Also, it's failing to register my left clicks about 25% of the time, so I am struggling to get anything done with this.

We are out of luck for now, Apple doesn’t seem to care for this, this is not priority for them. They know about this for quite some time.
