mouse/cursor not behaving well... is it a hardware or software problem?

Hi there,
My cursor used to behave, but now when I want to select text in any app, or position the cursor in exactly the right place to change a window size (or whatever), it's hit-and-miss.
Might it be a Yosemite bug? Or should I replace my (up until now) trusty Logitech Performance MX mouse?
