mouse dead on log off

Hi, I've had a good search for something along these lines but found nothing yet. My MacMini has four users and we have come upon a problem with the mouse. When someone logs off and someone else wants to log on, they find that the mouse has frozen. The only solution seems to be to force the computer to shut down, unplug the power, plug it in again and reboot.

Has anyone else experienced this or can anyone give an explanation for it?
 
others with same problem

I've just found that there are others with the same problem on MacMinis but no solution as yet? All running OS 10.5.6.
