Mouse for macBook Pro

I own a relatively new MacBook Pro. I can't seem to get any brand mouse to work effectively. I have tried a laser, apple magicmouse, and others. The tracking is always lacking and I have to move the mouse long distances to get the cursor to move where I want it to. I cannot use the MacBook with an external mouse. Any suggestions for what is wrong and what mouse would work would be appreciated.

Update the mouse drivers. That should work, also try not to use any custom settings on the mouse (go with standard).
