Mouse input problem

I am having a major issue with my MacBook Pro. The computer is bit seeing a mouse click as an input. I can connect an external mouse and the pointer will move around but I can't click on anything, the same goes for the trackpad, I can move the mouse around but when I try a mouse click nothing happens.

I've tried a restart but no joy.

Any ideas?

I've done a bit more investigation and its only a left mouse click that isn't being recognised, a two finger click works fine...
