mouse keeps on clicking

this has happened few times mostly when i was using trackpad and some when migty mouse was attached, mouse kept on clicking even if i wasnt touching anything. its like someone is pressing left button on the mouse rapidly.
is this a known issue or something wrong with my system/hardware?

i have a macbook running macos 10.5.8
