My mouse pointer is in the right spot everywhere except GIMP.

It is not "active" where it appears to be, that is to say I can be pointing to a command but the active location of the pointer is about 10 pixels off that position.

I don't have this issue anywhere other than GIMP and it is only a recent issue (today). It makes no difference whether I use the track pad or an external mouse.

Everything else about the program works correctly.

EDIT
All fixed.

I think the issue is somehow associated with running a monitor attached to the macbook. Restarting, shutting down, reinstalling had no effect. As a last resort I unplugged everything and just used the book.

Bingo! All fixed.

I can't shed any light on what difference this made but it did. If the pointer was off on all applications it would make sense that the video card was struggling but as everything else was fine it is more than a little confusing.
