Mouse recommendations

OK, help me pick out a mouse to go with my new 17-inch PowerBook.

Some qualifications:
  • two buttons
  • a scroll wheel
  • optical tracking
  • pretty and Apple-esque
  • small
  • Bluetooth a major plus
I've seen a Targus mouse that seemed to meet these qualifications, except I couldn't tell whether it would interface with the internal Bluetooth in my PowerBook, or if it only worked with the proprietary USB-Bluetooth dongle.

Can anyone answer that question, or suggest something better?
 
Bluetooth should just be bluetooth.

Your only other option is Microsoft's Bluetooth mouse. I have the logitech Cordless Elite Duo and love it.
 
A lot of these mice just say "Wireless," rather than specifying Bluetooth. May I assume that even though it doesn't specify Bluetooth, they would work on my PowerBook without the dongle?

Some wireless mice have receivers that plug a USB port. So you will have a mouse dongle in that case.

Then there is the question of does Max OS X support bluetooth HIDs yet? (Human Interface Devices - those being mice and keyboards.)

So even if it's real bluetooth, you might need the dongle just for getting it to work on a Mac right now.
 
I have a 2 button logetch w/ scroll wheel and it works fine. Maybe look into one of those(If you want cordless they make one but it is not optical)
 
Kensington Iridio

I have the Kensington Iridio. It's two button mouse with a scroll wheel. A nice aluminum color on the sides with graphite on top and see through graphite buttons. I've been using it for a few weeks and have no complaints. The MouseWorks software allows you to do so much with those two buttons!

you won't find a more apple-esque mouse than this one. it's also in wired style for much less. I have the latter, and it's just the coolest thing ever. scroller takes getting used to, but it has some definite advantages (like, if you hold down on one end, it will scroll, so if you have a long doc, you don't have to roll, and roll, and roll, and roll more...)
 
Slightly off topic, but has anyone compared a bluetooth mouse to a convention (but modern) wireless mouse?

I tried a wireless mouse not so long ago, but I had to return it since the poor update rate just drove me nuts, causing a jerky and slightly laggy cursor, etc.
 
with my iBook i use a swann optiglo mini - a very dinky mouse that works great and has a blue LED in it (always a good thing!). I hate to say it, but you really can't beat some of the M$ mice. I have a 5 button intellimous optical which i absolutely love.Wired mouse are fine- I don't like the idea of putting my mouse on to charge at night! I'd forget and it'd completely screw up my day when i couldn't do any work.

If it says "wireless" then you are dealing with rf 27Mhz, NOT Bluetooth, if you want bluetooth, then look for a label that says "Bluetooth", I'm in the same boat as you, I have a Powerbook and I want something portable not a bulky thing, but I think M$ has the only Bluetooth right now but not sure if it even works with Mac yet, but its kind of ugly! in my opinion. So, I'm still waiting...
