I've been having issues with my 17" MacBook Pro the last couple of days- the button under the trackpad wasn't clicking well. Today I went to back the system up (it's my primary machine for my photography and IT businesses) before freaking out and my mouse button just wouldn't click. I couldn't get SuperDuper! to work mouse-less, so I went into pre-panic mode. I have a Speck clear plastic cover on the system, and I noticed that the front of the cover was off the bottom of the computer. That seemed a little odd- and I couldn't get the cover back on- odder still.

I pull the cover off and flip over the computer and my battery is warped- the darned thing looks like the top of the Sydney Opera House! The battery's swelling had pushed up the bottom of the track pad button enough to make it inoperable.

I'm so glad I didn't have an explosion or a fire- it's often used as a laptop! (*cringe*) A few minutes on the phone to Apple and a new battery will be on its way here tomorrow.

I pulled the battery and rebooted and the system seems happy - SuperDuper! is about half-way through a backup- but I feel like I just dodged a big bullet.

I only have images on the system while I'm working on them, then they go off to external drives, but I've got about 300 images to process this evening and that wouldn't have gone well on my slow Powerbook...
