I have some old .mov videos that I need to convert to a more modern format - any ideas how to do that ?

What issues are you having with them? Don't they play on certain devices?
Some more details would help: Like audio & video codec or which device was used to record / create them.

If it's only for the sake of 'modern format', you will only decrease the quality by converting them (unless some AI upscaling is involved).

If it's about actual codec incompatibility, a commonly used tool to convert video files is Handbrake.

So the file is not recognized - I will try again in Handbrake - tried before to run it - and nothing will try to convert it.

If QuickTime Player can't open it, try VLC. If that works, press Cmd-I, click on "Codec Details", and post a screenshot of it here.
