mov to mp4 conversion with qt 7.2 pro

i have qt 7.2 pro activated and i'm trying to convert mov files to mp4 so the ipod can use them. help viewer says, open the file to convert with qt. go to file>export and follow directions to mp4 happiness. however, when i open my mov file, the export option is not active. it's just gray in the menu. any one know what gives?

Perhaps the author of your .mov file protected it somehow?
