I know these advice on switching Apple products posts have been done many times but can’t seem to find one on this particular switch.

I have a iPhone 12 Pro currently, however recently a lot of my bills have increased with the cost of living crisis in the UK. I’m fortunate enough to avoid being in a bad financial situation but I’d love to cost cut. One of the areas I can see a saving is my iPhone. If I was to move to a 13 Mini from my 12 Pro I’d save around £20 per month. Not a lot but it helps!

My mum has the 12 Mini and I love the size but was put off by the battery performance but now the 13 Mini appears to have addressed that.

My only concern really is the camera, it’s unclear whether it would be a significant step down? After doing research I can see that it doesn’t include the telephoto lenses but that’s for higher levels of zoom I think?

Think I could handle the smaller screen as sometimes I think my 12 Pro is too large. If I want to browse the web then I have my iPad for that.

I could change now to the 13 Mini or wait for 14 Pro later this year, I’d be interested if they were doing a 14 Mini but it appears they aren’t doing one.

If you're trying to cut costs the most obvious solution to me is keep the 12 Pro and don't get a new phone at all. Spending big amounts of money to potentially save small amounts of money doesn't make financial sense so unless something is wrong with your 12 Pro then keep your money.

I pay monthly for my phone and always have. So I’m happy to continue doing so. I think it’s more about feeling whether the larger amount for the 12 Pro is worth it.

Are you coming close to the end of your 24 month contract? If yes, then just keep your 12 Pro as it’s a very good phone and switch to a SIM only contract (£10-15 ish per month), and you will save more money this way.

It’s possible to get by on a mini: it doesn’t feel too small.

But.

1. It will feel small coming from a Pro and have less showing on the screen. (Not dramatically so, but still)
2. The battery life is less (should be, anyways). Consider your usage and more often charging needs of the mini.
3. The mini is still not “cheap”. If you really wanted to save money, get the SE.
4. You will miss telephoto if you use it at ALL. (Better AR, better measurement app, better long distance photos, better Portrait Mode)
5. Keyboard will be smaller and very possible make more typing mistakes.
