Returning my macbook to apple for a replacement. I need to clean it. Aside from backing up my files, how do I reset it to what it was before. Do I really need a reinstall of the os.

If your returning the computer you will want to do a clean install with at least a 1 time zero pass on the HD, if your just bringing it in for service a back up is all you need.

after you are all backed up, create a new admin user, login, "delete immediately" your old accounts, then go into disk utility and erase the free space 7x over.
