Hi,

I would like to do some tech support for my elderly parents.

The situation is as follows:

- My dad gave his old iPhone to my mom (before that she had been a complete technology novice), got a separate SIM card for her and that was all that was done to set up "her" iPhone

- This way his Apple ID ("Apple ID Dad") has continuously been used for everything on my mom's iPhone, including apps from the App Store like the messengers WhatsApp and Signal etc.

- Due to her day-to-day use with the iPhone my mom has become pretty interested in tech stuff you can do with the iPhone. To properly organize her data she would like to have an own dedicated Apple ID ("Apple ID Mom").

- iCloud isn't used for anything (yet), photos/videos are stored locally and email providers are third-party with IMAP.

- For my mom it would be catastrophic to lose the past history from WhatsApp/Signal.

Methodology ideas:

1) Signal seems to have a built-in feature to be able to move to a separate iPhone in the same Wi-Fi network by using the Signal PIN. My mom is also getting a new iPhone, is it possible to take the SIM card from the previous iPhone, set the new one up with "Apple ID Mom", purchase Signal from the App Store and then move everything over from the old iPhone over Wi-Fi?

2) WhatsApp doesn't seem to be able to do it this way. But WhatsApp can use iCloud to do a backup. Would it be a "proper" way to competely backup WhatsApp's chat hístory including photos and videos, by logging out of "Apple ID Dad" on the old iPhone, log back in with the new "Apple ID Mom", enable iCloud and use WhatsApp's backup feature this way even if WhatsApp the app itself was purchased with "Apple ID Dad"?

3) If it helps, there is a Mac with the software "iMazing" available that backups both iPhones regularly.

4) To get old regular/traditional text messages and local stuff like notes, would it be possible to set up my mom's new iPhone with a backup from the old one (that is connected to "Apple ID Dad"), then delete all apps installed from the App Store, log out of my dad's Apple ID and then log in with my mom's new one and do the steps 1) and 2)?

5) Did I miss anything that would nag my mom on her new iPhone about the Apple ID from my dad?

Thank you very much for any help! I've never done anything in that direction so I'm a bit worried messing things up.
