movie effect software

I have imovie and final cut.
im wondering if there is any plugin or effect software that makes creating a movie on mac fun like adding bubble thoughts, animated text effects on the videos etc.

Editing is not fun? What editing are you doing?

Actually, editing is annoying and tedious, but anyway. I have Adobe After Effects and you can do things like that on it but, obviously, that's not the cheapest option.

I could do the basic imovie transistion and text effects but this is a bday spoof video for a friend..hence the fun pluggins would be nice.
