Hi there!

Can anyone recommend good (and relatively affordable) hardware and software for movie making? (everything from camcorders, audio, editing, etc).

Thanks so much! :)

Mac Workstation (a studio desktop machine):

Mac Pro 2.66Ghz, 4-6GB RAM, ATI X1900, Wireless & Bluetooth. 1x150GB 10k Raptor as a boot drive, and three 750GB drives in a Raid 0 format for media storage.

Along with this you will need a 2TB backup system, or something similar to backup the three 750GB drives in Raid 0 format.

He said affordable-
I have a macbook 2ghz with 1gb ram and final cut express: $1600
it works pretty well but the display is small (its a laptop) but i love it and needed a laptop so. You will want an ext hard drive.
500gb $320 or 250gb $100 or 320gb $200
and if u want another moniter youre gettin pricey

For affordable, I agree with the poster above. MacBook Pro, at least 2GB ram, external HD and maybe a Dell 24" LCD for the external monitor with Final Cut Express. You could even go with a loaded 24" imac and Final Cut Express. Wouldn't be the fastest, but is fast enough for many. All depends on your needs. If you need more, then a midrange Mac Pro.

3-D animation

If you are interested in any 3-d animation, blender is awesome software. Go to blender.org and download it for free.

Thanks for the suggestions! :)

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

What about camcorders?

And editing?

And ...?
